Project Summary

The Jack Bell renewal project continues UBC’s commitment to building renewal, a sustainable building practice that avoids sending materials to landfills and saves the energy and resources that would be required to produce new materials. The project will mitigate deferred maintenance and seismically upgrade the building, while also reconfiguring its existing spaces within the building footprint to support state-of-the-art learning and teaching environments for the Faculty of Arts School of Social Work. The replacement of outdated mechanical and electrical systems and envelope upgrade to a high energy performance standard will support UBC’s Climate Action Plan. The seismic upgrade of Jack Bell to the current NBC and UBC REDi Guideline Silver Rating will support UBC’s seismic resilience planning.

All occupants and programs of the Jack Bell building will be relocated to swing spaces in other campus buildings during the construction period.
