In partnership with industry and government, the UBC Clean Energy Research Centre: Clean, Connected and Safe Transportation Testbed (Transportation Testbed project) will be a city-scale, living laboratory that will emulate critical links between energy, transportation, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and urban design. The Transportation Testbed has been designed as a unique national platform to develop the next generation of clean, connected and safe transportation systems for businesses and communities across the country. This world-leading approach reflects the evolution in transportation systems from passive, distinct entities into an interconnectedness of people, information, technologies, devices and products.  The expected research outcomes include not only scientific and technological breakthroughs, but also new business models and policy instruments.

The project includes a hydrogen refueling station, electrolyzer, hydrogen storage and other ground-oriented equipment, a lay-by off Thunderbird Boulevard to allow for ingress/egress of vehicles, and an educational hub.
