Project Summary
Before renovation began, the Friedman building housed the departments of Anatomy and Physiology. Once finished, it will be the new home for the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences, along with the Department of Physical Therapy.
Built in 1961, the Friedman building was completely rehabilitated under the UBC Renew program. Originally designed as a LEED Silver, the end result is a LEED Gold designation application. At this point, the first LEED Gold building renovation in Canada.
The overall project cost was approximately $19.3 Million compared to $26 Million for a replacement building. Construction took a total of 20 months (less than a new building) and was completed in September 2008.
