Macleod Building Renewal

Project Snapshot

Occupancy: Summer 2022
Budget: $51 million
Project Manager: UBC Project Services – Noel McNally
Architect: Proscenium Architecture & Interiors in partnership with Teeple Architects

Project Summary

The Macleod Building renewal will mitigate deferred maintenance and seismically upgrade the building, while also reconfiguring its existing spaces within the building footprint to support modern pedagogy and research. The replacement of outdated mechanical and electrical systems, as well as envelope replacement to energy efficient systems, will help UBC achieve our Sustainability Goals and Green Building Action Plan.

The upgrades will also bring building systems up to current code and address two existing bridges to other buildings, as well as the connection to the adjacent connected Fred Kaiser building. Interior reconfiguration of teaching and research spaces is intended to respond to ECE planning goals, improve learning environments and optimize space utilization. All Occupants and programs of the MacLeod Building will be relocated to swing spaces in two other campus buildings during the construction period.
